For Livan to face Marlins, Mets cut Marlon

Prior to Saturday, April 11, evening's contest between the Mets and Marlins, in Florida, the Mets designated outfielder Marlon Anderson for assignment to make room on the roster for the night's starting pitcher, Livan Hernandez.

Anderson had been in his third year of his second tour of duty with the Mets (2005; 2007-2009), but became expendable with the off season acquisitions of Jeremy Reed, Cory Sullivan and Rob Mackowiak.

His presence with the team was further shadowed by the spring training signing of former All-Star Gary Sheffield.

If Anderson clears waivers, he will have the option of declaring for free agency or remaining with the organization and play for an affiliated minor league team.
