Now pitching for the Mets, oh wait he was DFA'd

On Saturday, April 18, the New York Mets designated relief pitcher Darren O'Day for assignment. The transaction followed a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and was in preparation for Sunday afternoon's conclusion to the three-game weekend series.

O'Day, a rule five draft pick from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, would have to clear waivers to remain in the Mets organization, albeit as a minor leaguer.

Nelson Figueroa took O'Day's spot on the roster and was the starting pitcher for the Mets on April 19. The Mets lost to the Brewers 4-2, but recieved six innings from the spot starter, who allowed only three runs.

Following the game, the Mets designated Figueroa for assignment and promoted Casey Fossum, a left handed pitcher.

Fossum will join the Mets bullpen as a second left handed reliever.

Mike Pelfrey, who was originally scheduled to start Sunday's game but was instead rested because of tendinitis, will likely be available for his next start when the Mets host the Washington Nationals on Saturday, April 25.

In the meantime, Pelfrey may make a relief appearance during the upcoming series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
